
About Peter C. Cavelti
Peter Cavelti was born and educated in Switzerland. His background as an investment professional spans more than 50 years and four continents. After arriving in North America, he spent more than a decade with Guardian Trustco, a Canadian banking group, where he was in charge of the firm’s international division and its investment management activities. In 1982, he became President and Chief Executive officer of Guardian Trustco International. Later, as Chairman of his own firm, Cavelti Capital Management Ltd., he oversaw sizeable mutual fund, pension fund, and private client assets.
Peter Cavelti was among the first investment managers to recognize some of the defining trends of our time, such as the ascent of the emerging economies and more recently the dramatic reversal of globalization. Peter’s books and essays on geopolitics, demographic change, natural resources, gold and the debasement of money have been internationally published. He is also the author of a critically acclaimed social study of colonialism and a novel.
Peter Cavelti has served as a director of numerous public and private corporations in North America and abroad. He was also active in the public sector, most notably as an advisor to the Government of Canada, whom he assisted with the conception and marketing of the Gold Maple Leaf program, and the Province of Ontario, for whom he chaired the Commodity Futures Advisory Board of the Ontario Securities Commission.
Finally, Peter is deeply engaged with philanthropy. He has been an advisor to Médecins Sans Frontières / Doctors Without Borders for many years, and does advocacy work for after-school program Beyond 3:30 and rating service Charity Intelligence. He is a Partner in the Swiss-based International Board Foundation’s Center for Corporate Governance, specializing in philanthropic oversight.

ABOUT MELISSA CAVELTI
Melissa graduated from Northwestern University and went on to become a Chartered Financial Analyst. She has been in the financial industry for 25 years. While employed at Royal Bank of Canada, she rose to become Portfolio Advisor and member of the bank’s Strategic Planning Committee.
In 2002, she joined the Bank of Montreal, which owns BMO, Nesbitt Burns and Chicago’s Harris Bank and services more than ten million clients. As Vice President and Senior U.S. Equity Specialist, her job was to provide daily portfolio advice to the bank’s Investment Advisors and to be the manager of the BMO Nesbitt Burns U.S. Equity Portfolio, which solidly outperformed the S&P 500 index during her tenure.
Later, Melissa took on additional responsibilities with the Bank of Montreal, becoming Managing Director in charge of Private Client Investing. Highly qualified to assist clients, both in the areas of reviewing existing banking and brokerage relationships and portfolio analysis, she joined our firm in 2010.
Melissa is also accomplished musician. She plays the double bass with Orchestra Toronto, for whom she also serves as a Director.
